Short version
MeterJournal is built for personal utility tracking with an offline-first approach, optional camera and notification access, and Apple-managed billing for premium features.
This Privacy Policy explains how Lupo (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles personal data when you use the MeterJournal mobile application, this website, and related services.
MeterJournal is an offline-first iOS application that helps users track utility meter readings, estimate bills, view forecasts, manage reminders, and optionally purchase premium features.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to:
- the MeterJournal iOS application;
- our legal and informational website pages;
- premium purchase and entitlement management connected to the app.
2. Data We Process
Depending on how you use MeterJournal, the following categories of data may be processed:
- Meter data you enter: meter names, meter types, units, tariff setup, pricing information, budgets, billing cycle settings, and reading history.
- Optional reading images: if you choose to attach a photo to a reading or use OCR scanning, the image may be stored locally on your device.
- App settings: selected language, currency, theme, notification preferences, onboarding state, and other local preferences.
- Purchase and subscription data: product identifiers, purchase history, subscription status, receipt-related information, entitlement status, and an app-specific or anonymous identifier used to determine premium access.
- Support communications: if you contact us directly, we may receive your email address and the contents of your message.
3. Local Storage and Offline-First Behavior
MeterJournal is designed to work primarily on-device. In the current app version, meter data, reading history, budgets, settings, and related usage information are generally stored locally on your device unless you choose to export data yourself.
If you delete the app, use the in-app “Delete app data” action, or erase your device, locally stored app data may be permanently removed.
4. Camera, OCR, and Notifications
- Camera access: used only if you choose to scan a meter using OCR.
- Photo processing: images used for OCR are processed to detect meter values.
- Notifications: used only if you enable reading reminders or abnormal usage alerts.
5. Premium Purchases, Apple, and RevenueCat
MeterJournal offers optional premium features through Apple In-App Purchases. Payment processing, billing, renewals, cancellations, and refunds are handled by Apple through your App Store account.
We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions, validate entitlements, support purchase restoration, and determine whether premium features should be unlocked. In connection with that functionality, RevenueCat may process purchase history, subscription status, product identifiers, receipt-related data, locale or currency context, and an anonymous or app-specific user identifier.
For more information, see RevenueCat Privacy Policy and Apple Privacy.
6. How We Use Data
We use data only as reasonably necessary to:
- provide the core meter tracking and bill estimation functionality;
- save and display readings, forecasts, budgets, and historical comparisons;
- enable OCR scanning when you request it;
- deliver local reminders and abnormal usage alerts if enabled;
- determine premium entitlement status and restore purchases;
- respond to support requests and protect the service against misuse;
- comply with legal obligations.
7. Legal Bases
Where required by applicable law, we rely on one or more of the following legal bases:
- performance of a contract to provide the app and premium features;
- consent for optional permissions such as camera and notifications;
- legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the service;
- legal obligations where applicable.
9. Data Retention
- Local app data remains on your device until you delete it, delete the app, or use the in-app delete data option.
- Purchase and entitlement records may be retained by Apple and RevenueCat under their own retention schedules and policies.
- Support communications may be retained as long as reasonably necessary to respond and maintain records.
10. International Data Transfers
If third-party providers such as RevenueCat or website infrastructure providers process data outside your country, your data may be transferred to other jurisdictions. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards under applicable law.
